Having a baby brings unimaginable joy, but also greater challenges than you could ever anticipate.
Of these challenges, many parents find helping their baby get the sleep they need in their first year the biggest pre-occupation and challenge of all.
This Spring we asked over 500 mums about their experiences of sleep in the first year of their baby’s life, as part of our biggest ever Sleep Study.
The results were fascinating. Sleep is certainly an issue that every parent has an opinion on!
- A third of parents believe they lose between one and two hours sleep a night – equivalent to one full night’s sleep every week and around 520 hours sleep a year!
- A third describe their experience of sleep loss in the first months as ‘awful’, while a realistic 50% described it as disrupted but only by the expected amount
- One in five actually managed more sleep than they were expecting
- Over half of mums felt lack of sleep left them ‘much more emotional’, while a quarter experienced strained relationships with their partner as a result of sleep loss
